How to Import Categories to Magento Store with File2Cart

If you really want to make Magento category import easier and faster you need to know a few important things before starting to transfer .CSV files. Let’s start from the file preparation.
First of all edit your file. You can do it using any usual text editor. However, it is better to open a file with any spreadsheet program.
Here are the recommended symbols that can be used as separators - ",", ";" or "|".

A lot of people face problems during the field mapping. Here are a few things you have to know about this step to make the import successful.
With File2Cart, the fields can be mapped automatically. If your file does not contain one of the required fields it is necessary to add them, otherwise the import process won’t be performed successfully. Here are the required fields:
- Product ID (SKU);
- Product Name (SKU/Product Id);
- Full Description (Short Description/Description);
- Price;
With File2Cart, it is possible to use Product Name (SKU) instead of Description.
Below you can see an example of .CSV file with the columns that you can use:You can download sample CSV files (csv, ~3kB): CSV with absolute image URL |
CSV with relative image URL |
CSV with image name only
If your file contains some fields that are formatted in a different way, it is recommended to map them manually using a special data preview The main categories have to be divided by Separator Delimiter, subcategories - with Path Delimiter. Separator delimiters and Path delimiters should consist of one character.
For instance:
Separator Delimiter - |
Path Delimiter = /
In this case, your categories should look this way:
1. Category1|Category2
2. Category1/Subcategory1
3. Category1|Category2/Subcategory1/Subcategory2|Category3/Subcategory1
Pay attention at price format. Your file must contain integer prices or fractions.
Note: 1,000 or 1.000 = $1. NOT $1000
Here are some category delimiters: / \ | ; > ,
It is not recommended to put the similar kinds of delimiters for categories and columns, but if you have those, make sure that category fields are limited this way - (“”).
For example:
“Category1/Subcategory1” NOT Category1/Subcategory1
